I'm so glad I found you! I love combining movement and writing. Using yoga as a metaphor for writing challenges is a great idea. Thank you.

For me, forward folds remind me to look inward. When I do a fold, I'm literally looking at myself (my legs). No matter which position I'm in, my field of vision is limited. On some days, this can be claustrophobic. But once I settle, it's comforting.

Need to give these a try. My flexibility isn't where I'd like it to be. During lockdown, I improved a lot because we did a lot of home strength and flexibility conditioning (well, I should say, my lovely wife forced me to do such! 🤣) but I've been rubbish at keeping up with that.

The metaphor angle is great. I'm not sure what my most uncomfortable parts of writing are, but it's got me thinking.

Also, I'm currently at a work retreat for a couple of days, so my reading is behind at the moment Kate, but your posts are in my inbox waiting :)

Work retreat sounds like fun...I hope?! Good destination?

Your wife sounds like a better motivator/enforcer than I am 😂

😅

Yeah beautiful spot out in the Dandenong Ranges. So lush and green. Only downside is the weather, which has tanked into rain and cold after a blazing hot weekend. Typical Melbourne.

I finally found a pocket of time to do this! It felt really nice:). Just one thought, when you mentioned letting go of the top and the bottom of the spine in uttanasana, I had to think about it for a moment: how do I let that go? Then I exhaled out of my mouth and bent my knees a little more and that seemed to do it. I bet there are other ways that work for different bodies. Sometimes I wonder...what does it mean to let go? And it seems like a lot of times it's about not doing something, like not tensing your shoulders or not tensing your pelvic floor, rather than focusing on a specific action. Does that make sense? Just me thinking aloud...thanks for the video!

That does makes sense. It's a great way to describe the sensation! The breath is often useful in these cases and although I learned to use it in more advanced classes, I think we can start using it at any level such as in this way. Perfect!

Thanks for the idea and thanks for watching :)

I love the seated forward fold! But have definitely tweaked my lower back doing it, so nowadays I place my hands on my knees to keep from going too far. I feel like half of it is ego training, knowing I *could* reach for my toes but setting the intention not to.

Oh yes I have had this feeling! My first couple years of yoga were “competitive” with no other person than myself. It’s easy to have the odd day to slip into it still :)

Interesting how you compare writing tasks that require discipline with the movements in yoga that you might find a bit difficult at first. Makes total sense. When you persist with something difficult you usually find that you improve. (Commas...ugh!).

Thanks Kate. I'm going to try those forward folds this morning.
